Before the storm and psychosis

Might as well get the second bit out of the way first. I've spent the entire day convinced that it's Sunday. Now as you read this, if you read it on the day I plan to schedule it for posting, it is indeed Sunday. As I write this, however, it's very much Saturday, has been all day, and will continue so to be until midnight.

Yeah, I don't know.

Frickin' clues everywhere too. That is to say, everywhere I looked there was stuff to tell me it's Saturday. One of the biggest clues was that my Mom was watching the Nebraska game, and those are almost exclusively on Saturday. Never on Sunday, because NFL. And of course the Huskers got beat by the Hosers. I mean Hoosiers. At home. Well, it took fifteen years to destroy the program, not even Scott Frost can fix that firetrucking train wreck in only two years.

Anyway, I'm either losing it, or I'm not. Doesn't matter either way, I'm sure I'll be very happy if I go full dane bamage.

Beautiful day today. Warm and sunny this morning, a bit breezy this afternoon. I got a good bit of work done; mended some fence mostly but other tinkering bits that needed doing.

I also did some vehicular ambush drills. No pics though, sorry 'bout that. When I'm ready for a drill -- as I am because I'm both the one running the drill and the one executing the drill -- I can uncase the M-4, load, and get aimed fire down in about 10 seconds. Which isn't very good, but at least I'm working the drills and slowly improving.

One interesting thing I noticed today was that when I'm firing the M-4 from inside the vehicle the muzzle blast blows trim off the side of the pickup. It's a good thing to know.

One thing I could use is someone to unexpectedly throw these ambush drills at me. Hey I know, I'll get a caddy! You know, someone to carry my rifles around for me and provide valuable tips and advice. A hot young chick caddy would be perfect. Maybe I'm not losing it after all.

And of course there's the threat of a big snow storm moving in.

Well, it's that time of the year.

Nice morning to be a very low-stress cow.

My farmer friend in Herefordshire is a bit depressed about all the rain they're having.

Here's what the river Wye on Hay looked like last year. (I always want to say "Wye on Rye.")

And today...

This lifted his spirits though. Looks like there are American-style dummies in Blighty, too!

I'm hoping that tomorrow, which will be Sunday and by all predictions will be nasty weather wise, will provide an opportunity for some writing.

  1. OK. Some random stuff to evaluate your mental state and grounding in reality. Why Mikey? Is it because you would eat anything put in front of you? Water well pipe. Is that used to move water from place to place on the surface? Seems small for drill pipe. Beautiful puppy dogs. Thanks, Mark

    1. Good challenge Mark. Okay. 1. Slightly embarrassing (but also emproudening) at my age; mostly a take on the "blank" everything, even though Mikey hated everything in the commercial. 2. It's the pipe which connects the well head to the submersible pump. The pump actually "hangs" from the well head via pipe attachment, and it pumps water up through the pipe to the surface. It's an electric pump btw. 3. The dogs all know it.

  2. Though I'm not looking forward to winter, I will get a thrill at seeing that first snowflake in the air. It is what it is I suppose.

Good luck with the snowstorm, your friend in Hertfordshire looks like he's got all the rain he'll ever need. Until he really needs it that is. Lovely countryside over there innit?

    1. Yep, winter is winter. I try to enjoy it with the zest of HDT, but usually come up short.

Herefordshire is green and lovely and nearly identical to Wales, which it nestles up to cheek by jowl as it were.

  3. Y'all can keep that funky white stuff... And we 'all' occasionally lose days... Remember active duty, when your hair was on fire, and you'd been working like a dog? And somebody asked what day it was, and you had NO clue? BTDT... sigh... And all the game broadcasts on AFRTS were 'off' schedule... LOL

    1. I need winter's misery to help me appreciate the delights of not-winter. And I need winter's misery to help me appreciate winter's misery.

I loved that about the navy, it wasn't a M-F, 9-5 job. You needed a time hack but that day of the week shit was for the yeomen to keep track of.

  4. Did my last trip up CO 77 to the "patch". Think I timed it just about right.

A cousin's son is a North Platte HS Senior and a footballer. Excited times; they won District for the first time in several years. Good change he will get a full ride scholarship somewhere. I'm pushing Wyoming.

In the dim past played for the Buffs in the old Big 8. The Nebraska fans were the best! As opposed to, say, Oklahoma where we got urine showers coming out the tunnel.

    1. That time of the year came a bit early this year. Hoping for a second Indian Summer, which we probably won't get, but you never know.

It's a good thing to be 17 and looking ahead to possibilities. Wyoming is a good school. Nothing wrong with the Jackrabbits over at SDSU. Just sayin... :)

Nebraska fans may be the only good Nebraska tradition left. I doubt football will even be played anymore in 20 years.

  5. We are supposed to get our first snow this week, with the potential for several inches.
I got my 24" throated scroll saw this week. and my landlord found a place in his heated barn to set it up in, so I can woodwork in the winter. Menard's sold be some spiral blades for it. These will cut in any direction. I like a saw blade that lets me ignore even basic safety practices.

My F-150 only has F-150 and LARIAT as trim pieces.

  6. Sounds like a perfect winter in store for you Scott, plenty of safeish, warm woodworking and snow to shovel. Paradise.

My F-150 used to have F-150 and Lariat on the driver's side. Also a plastic end cap on the end of the step-up. But they only come off once, so I'm good.
