Real, S1E4

Yesterday was quite a bit hectic. Seemed like every time I turned around there was something unexpected clamoring for attention. That's life though, right?

I also had a rather full plate of responsibilities to execute. It's always important for me to do my best to be a principled man. In times like these it seems a little bit more obvious and even imperative that I do my very best to hew to principles.

So that was me cleaning my plate yesterday. I did manage to get in a hike. It was less than I wanted but it was also 100 percent okay.

It's easy for me to get caught up in my own bullshit. I'm very fortunate that I'm surrounded by a team that isn't shy in demonstrating what they think of my self importance.

Chickens are good at reminding me about scale, context, and perspective.

I also got a chicken report video done.

Before I did that, Mom and I tuned in to a zoom meeting with family in the eastern part of the state. A bright side to the present state of affairs, zoom has allowed Mom and I to see babies we wouldn't have seen otherwise. Zoom existed well before the present pandemoniousness, and we all knew that, but we were all busy and no one was willing to dedicate 40 minutes to a video chat. Now we are. For me it's worth thinking about that and about why I personally was too busy before. That's my circus, my monkeys. It's good food for thought for me personally.

Yesterday was warmer than the day before, and it was very pretty and enjoyable, but it was also still kind of coolish. The air had a bit of a bite.

Today the air did not bite at all. Most of the chickens were outside when I checked. Two of the hens had a lot to say though.

They went on for some time.

During the course of my hike I visited another thatching ant mound. They were busy!

They are very different than harvester ants.

It was uncomfortably warm for red to be exercising in her winter coat, so she took every opportunity to lay up in the shade.

At the three mile mark I paused to get a selfie with Red. What can I say? Boomer with a phone.

Glaciers are gone completely in this series of tree lines. Sharp tailed grouse everywhere!

At the end of the hike the numbers were 5.64 miles in a buck twenty-four. I had to fight through pain a few times, but it wasn't too bad overall. I didn't try to push very hard but I went farther, faster than I expected and was fresh as a wilted daisy at the end.

And now I'm off to do more life stuff. Burnin' daylight!

Be well and embrace the blessings of liberty.

    1. I've looked at them and thought they might be an interesting idea. I'm a little bit worried about disintegration in the wet. Going for feed on Tuesday so maybe if they're on special. And if bomgaars is open.

  3. That reminds me, need to stock up on dog food. We have a local store I prefer. If not, Tractor Supply. Bomgaars is a bit of a drive for me.

    1. Sidney and Scottsbluff for chicken feed, so I have a 90 mile drive either way if I want the feed. Lucky for me, Mom has a hair appointment in Sidney, so that coin flip comes up Sidney!

    1. So far in my experience the chickens have never not been doing something interesting. Who knew?

Red is pretty photogenic. Me, I'm half-a-head Fred! You try things. You learn from experience. Over time, if you survive your mistakes, you begin to approach competency and see the world a tiny bit more clearly. Or something like that.
