Minimally Multiplayer Ongoing Geology

And fixing a door.

##########

Yesterday a lot of crap happened and much of it was distasteful. Just life stuff, just one of those days. Still, I was able to get out and watch nature do a little bit of work.

I'm pretty lucky. Slo mo?

Water is cool stuff.

Pretty day here today with hints of approaching spring.

Today I had a lot of nerve pain but I got out and fought through it.

Saved a tree.

Didn't plan to scramble glaciers but I did.

Adventure!

Red had fun.

So where's the fall? Wait for it...

Skeptics just don't get how important falling is for old firetruckers.

One of the tricky bits of civilization is the propensity for large numbers of people to club together beneath a banner representing clearly demonstrable bullshit. This is the naked emperor effect. It's rather a simple thing in concept, but for both masses and individuals there are a great many decision tree components involved.

Part of the problem is hubris. Individuals know that they're really, really smart, and knowing this, they also know that it's all but impossible for them to be fooled. Another part is laziness. As with most living creatures on the planet, ape-lizards are evolved to carefully husband their individual energy resources. They can work very hard when necessary, but have a strong instinct to lay about and preserve energy rather than squander it on foolishness.

Thinking is hard work and burns up a hell of a lot of energy. When faced with something new and different, individual ape-lizards will often follow the crowd rather than expend the energy required to puzzle out a proper path on their own. They're very smart, after all, and they can't be fooled, and they know which crowd to trust, so therefore...

Yeah, follow the crowd. Especially when there's no requirement to expend energy.

Once they've signed on to the crowd's campaign, hubris rears its head. They can see that the emperor is naked as a jaybird, but now they're invested in the thing. They can't admit they were wrong, can they? Being wrong might be taken as not being smart, right? Even gullible! And they're certainly not dumb or gullible are they?

And besides, only stupid bad people would victimize smart people by thinking the gullible. Off with their heads!

You've all read history and have a good idea what's happened with the ape-lizards over time. I think most of you reading this drivel know the difference between history and Zinnian bullshit. You know how many times perfectly rational ape-lizards have followed some naked, inbred motherfiretrucker all the way to Hell.

  3. Good post. Thank you. That does look like a nice lunch. What could be better? The three items on the left mid plate could be separated somewhat, placed on a bed of ice cream, covered with chocolate and eaten as dessert. I cannot say for sure that it would be better but it might be. Of course, then you would have to go out and redo that workout. Everything I read indicates that chocolate and coffee are good for you. Of course, I engage in selective reading. We are looking for spring here in North Carolina. Hope it comes soon. Stay well and please keep posting.

    1. Or covered in bacon grease. ;-)

Spring is springing around here although you have to look close and bear up to the bitter winds still blowing back and forth. Which is normal this time of the year in this part of the country.
