I had an idea that doing a morning garden update would be a good way to keep my nose to the blogging grindstone. I may be right about that, but looking at someone else's garden every day could be monumentally uninteresting for you kind readers. I guess the half-baked concept was to make shorter posts on a daily basis. We'll see how it goes. Here's today's update.

It's another beautiful morning here. At 7:30 a.m. it's just about time to close up the house and head out to get some ranch work done.
As for closing up the house, during the summer I open windows at night and let the cool overnight air flow into the house, often with a window fan assist. By morning air temps in the house have fallen into the low 60's (sometimes cooler). When the sun comes up and outside air temps begin to rise I shut the windows and close curtains/lower blinds, trapping the lovely cool air inside. Because my new house has great shade from lovely old neighborhood trees, it doesn't soak up a lot of heat from direct solar radiation during the day. While outside temps soar, inside temps rise slowly, hitting about 74-75 degrees by sunset. Then I open the house and start the cycle again. In this part of the world we only rarely have hot nights, and those can be lived with since they're rather uncommon.

Independence Day tomorrow! Not just another "holiday" but a day to remember, honor and rededicate ourselves to the notions of Liberty and Freedom.

It's a good question. Will there be four? You're right John, cattle handling is routine for me and I operate at an almost instinctive level in that realm. I guess it's that 10,000 hour thing. This morning it's a beautiful Independence Day, the Glorious Fourth. The sky is clear and the sun is already pounding down with vigor. It'll be hot and lovely, just right for some stock tank splashing, which is one of the manifold blessings of liberty. I'm dreaming a dream that everyone gets to spend a quality minute or so with the Declaration of Independence today. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
